Cephalanthus 'Fiber Optics'

Description

Cephalanthus is commonly known as buttonbush, the Fiber Optics® variety is a distinct improvement over the coarser Cephalanthus occidentalis that grows twice the size of this compact selection. Buttonbush is a deciduous shrub that grows 6 - 12 feet tall and is happy in moist conditions, tolerating flooding and wet spring soil.

In Summer, tiny, tubular 5-lobed frangrant white flowers appear in dense, spherical, long-stalked flower heads. The flower heads have a pincushion-like appearance and attract hummingbirds and butterflies. The plant has fruiting heads in the winter before bright green leaves appear in late spring.
