Lions Head Japanese Maple | Acer palmatum 'Shishigashira'

Category: Shop All, Trees

This Japanese Maple has attractive green foliage which changes to red in spring. The crinkled almate leaves are ornamental and turn brilliant shades of gold and crimson in fall. In mid-spring, burgundy flowers rise above the foliage. Lions Head has rough gray bark and red branches which add unique features to any landscape.

This is a relatively low maintenance tree, and should only be pruned in summer after the leaves have fully developed, as it may 'bleed' sap if pruned in late winter or early spring. It has no significant negative characteristics and can be classified as a deciduous shrub or small tree.
